Jpeg saves

I decided to create a test where I find out how many saves a jpeg could handle before the quality will start to lower. It was a very interesting test because now I know that right after the first (!) save (all saves were with the Maximum (12) quality in Adobe Photoshop CS2) the quality became much worse and after the 6th save the photograph was absolutely disgusting and impossible for printing. So, when you edit the files (retouching, color correction etc.) DO NOT save in jpeg. Save in PSD! And only after everything is done save it as a jpeg but do not delete PSD! Just in case something was wrong with the file or in a year you decide to correct something in there.

The animated gif showing all this is inside (1 mb to download).

Nef and Photoshop

Dedicated to those who can’t open their *.nef files in Photoshop, to those who recently has bought Nikon D80, to those who doesn’t like Capture NX or doesn’t want to buy it. The answer to all these questions is very simple. Just download the latest version of Camera Raw plugin for Adobe Photoshop here: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html (you don’t need to be registered at adobe.com for it). Move the file Camera Raw.8bi from the archive to Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS2\File Formats\ Don’t forget to rename the old version there to Camera Raw.old (you can delete this file after you’ve successfully managed all these operations and your *.nef files open without any problems). Open Photoshop and test open a *.nef file. It’s gonna say something (I don’t remember exactly what), you agree with that and you have to see the Camera Raw plugin opened with your file. I like it more than Capture NX interface. I got used to Photoshop’s.

I’ve bought Nikon D80

Nikon D80

Jeesus! I’ve got this camera! It’s in my hands right now! My god, it’s soooo beautiful! Very cool and everything is so neat. The interface’s usability is top notch (compared to Canon 400D which sucks at it absolutely and compared to my old fellow F50D which should now be sold). Damn! I can’t believe that I’m moving from film to digital. It was a 2 years long step. I couldn’t afford very expensive cameras 2 years ago but today we have D80 released by Nikon which is top notch and absolutely affordable even for me!

I’ll post the pictures later from this camera. Now I’m reading the manual and testing and trying all the modes. But I’m absolutely happy anyway. This is the best gift for my 29th birthday. The camera is laying in my hand like… mmm,.. like a woman’s breast. The designer of the D80’s body is a GOOD guy. All the functions and wheels and buttons are at the very places where they HAVE to be. Everything is so smooth and logical that you don’t even think where to go with your fingers. The fingers move there by themselves don’t asking the head.

Ok, it’s time to go for a shooting…
