Watched this movie yesterday. What can I say? It blows me into tears. This is the most incredibly emotional movie I watched for last 2 years I guess. The cinematography is da best!!! All actors play fantastically (both the kids and the adults). This has to win Oscar!

Penelope (2006)

 Penelope (2006)

http://imdb.com/title/tt0472160/

Another saturday evening spent in cinema. But this time with a comedy/drama from an uknown director Mark Palansky. I liked this movie. It’s not boring, it’s not stupid, maybe a little bit long in the middle but overall it’s a very nice fantasy story without blood, goblins, killers and superheroes (I’m tired of this s…t already). Christina Ricci is adorable even with his pig nose. But afterwards - even better. Plays well. We really believe that she has a royal blood. But I didn’t like a lot James McAvoy. I didn’t believe he was in love with Penelope. Maybe just liked her but not so much. And there is not enough music for such kind of movie. I really missed a composition like “The baffled king composing halelluja…” from Shrek. I’d give “Penelope” 8/10 points.

Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

Stranger Than Fiction

http://imdb.com/title/tt0420223/

Saw this movie recently. My god! Am I really so sentimental? I was crying at the end like a starving mouse under the rain in the centre of a big city late at night. But thanks god I was watching this movie absolutely alone - no one saw me. I don’t know why I loved this movie but it really impressed me with its direction, acting and scenario. The director did a great job slowly untwisting the whole story infront of us: very slow movements at the beginnning of a very slow and boring life of Harold Crick, than “click” - something happened and we’re already not sleeping but starting to watch with an interest - the movements became faster and than we’re starting to cry at the end because our hearts can’t deny the fact that we all fell in love with the man behind the main character - he did a great job in choosing his own fate and breaking all principles he was building 12 years. The last phrases of the writer Karen Eifel forces us to think about this man and his deeds again and understand that she was absolutely right about choosing the end for her story. 10 out of 10 points!!!

Watched this movie recently. Wow! That was a very interesting intepretation of a Stephen King’s tiny story on 4 pages. :) Cusack was good here. Really good. It was his own movie. He played there as he wanted. I really felt I was in that room with him alone. The intense and the suspense was very well created and standed out through the whole movie. 2 minutes of Samuel L. Jackson were very cool and played his role like a charm. He was strong there. Like in Pulp Fiction: “The path of the righteous men is beset on all sides…”

Recommended to watch in dark and alone.

Spiderman two and a half

Spiderman two and a half

http://imdb.com/title/tt0413300/

Saw this movie yesterday evening. Damn! What a crappy crap! First two spideys were good and pleasere to watch but what happened to the third one? I don’t know. The storyline is so week that you don’t understand where is the end and why. And when it finishes the third time you still thinking something is missing. Kirsten Dunst plays as bad as hell. Maguire plays even worse. When this couple pretended to cry on a bridge the whole people in the cinema were laughing. :) And I don’t understand why the director put so MUCH “crying crap” into comics-movie. Cut these things and the whole movie will be 80 minutes instead of long-long 140. When we saw the closing titles we all felt a sense of relief in the cinema.

But. The vfx are incredibly stunning! The sand and the sandman are fantastically done! That was the real sand. Not the particles in 3d software but the real sand. The texture, the movement, the blur - everything was done very well. The second cool vfx is that black symbiosis thing.  The last thing in this movie I watched with the great pleasure is the light and the color. The light on the faces on EVERY shot is very well set. And the color in the whole movie is great! The whole movie became so consistent and vivid because of this. I remember King-Kong where the colors were oversaturated and thus unbelievable.

My rating for this movie is 5/10.

The Illusionist (2006)

The Illusionist (2006)

http://imdb.com/title/tt0443543/ (7.7/10)

Damn, this was a very interesting movie! I saw it tonight and have to say it was very entertaining, unpredictable, eye-catching and with a happy end! I love the movies of such “thriller” type with a happy end. It contradicts the whole movie and you feel such an enfeeblement at the end. Norton is good here. Not at best of his actor’s abilities but for this movie it’s enough. The tricks of course are not the best here and not very interesting. I know all of them. The director could find something more entertaining and tricky. Because this movie is about tricks. But overall I liked it a lot. Much more interesting and holding-your-attention-till-the-end than “The Prestige” (2006).

The Constant Gardener (2005)

http://imdb.com/title/tt0387131/

Saw this movie an hour ago. Not so very interesting in case of a plot (everything is absolutely predictable), boring performance by the actors, very long movie (could be cut in half), don’t understand why it has got 7.7 points. I’d give it 7.0. But there IS something interesting and beautiful because I am writing about it. The camera work. Not for the whole movie (actually I didn’t like the “trembling” style of shooting, like I call it “a drunk cameraman”) but for some shots it’s very cool. Here is what I am talking about:

The Departed (2006)

Tonight I saw this movie. Wow! That is just wow! I didn’t like DiCaprio. Untill this movie. The performance of him is really stunning. The character is so believable, beautiful and so many-sided that you immediately start to love him. His story is not so simple in the storyline but he’s trying to beat the customs, to break his family’s “bad” line. Btw I like his image style as well. :) Matt Damon of course is playing very good too. I liked him as well. He chose the right performance of his character. Martin Scorsese did unbelievably beautiful job! The movie is 2h24m but I didn’t move again until it’s finished. I can’t believe someone cut two and a half hours from me “precious” time and made me seeing this movie. :) Scorsese is a genius. No doubt.

The story unfolds very carefully and like the spiral makes the circles bigger and bigger step by step and at the end it just breaks up like someone cut it with the scissors. The directing is just amaing and very well paced. Jack Nicholson is good. Mark Wahlberg is fantastic! I liked him here a lot! 10 points out of 10 for me. And the Oscars for “The best movie”, “The best director” and “The best supporting role” (for DiCaprio of course)!

The design for the movie is also beautiful and dramatic! I like the typography and the posters! Very dramatic!

El Laberinto del Fauno (2006)

El Laberinto del Fauno

http://imdb.com/title/tt0457430/

I saw this movie tonight! First of all I have to say that this is a fantastic movie!!! I don’t remember seeing such a movie for a long time. Though it’s not for children, not for very weak women and teenagers. It’s really brutal, sometimes even disgusting, though it’s so beautiful, tender, amazingly lit and painted. Vfx and the directing are at the very high grade. The performance of the Captain is amazing! The actor did everything for this bad guy to appear not only as a bad, but as a man, who is so arrogant and evil that he fears himself. This was a fantastic performance. Overall I’d give that movie 9 out of 10 points because it’s very brutal (like Hostel of Saw). But the end is really beautiful. The movie itself contains a lot of questions to think and rethink after. I’d like this one I came to: a man or a woman has to manage three main tasks in his own life to become a prince or a princess at heaven. It doesn’t matter which deeds they have to manage but they have to be very good ones.

I sit to watch this movie with a little bit of sarcasm: the previous “Hellboy” was a teeny comic crap though with very nice vfx. But I didn’t move until the movie finishes. No, sorry, I ran for 5 seconds to take a sip of water because my throat was very dry in the middle of “Laberinto”. And I like that it is not in english. Spain language adds something creepy to the whole movie. If this movie doesn’t get an Oscar and doesn’t win a Cannes’ Lion as the best movie than this world have gone crazy. :)
