Hosting here and there with my own the clients’ websites and I can resume the services of the next three big hosting companies. I choosed them all by the price and reviews from users on the net.
1. micfo.com

American hosting company. Very nice and clean website, easy to understand what they offer. I was using their linux dedicated hosting plan “MG Super”. What can I say? No complains at all. Their cPanel admin interface is clean and good. You can create on your website anything you want. Everything is Unlimited on their plans: http://www.micfo.com/cpanel-web-hosting.html I hadn’t any problems with the email accounts hosting there. The uptime is good (~99.8%). Though I can’t tell how this hosting will behave itself when you had a Digg/Del.ici.ous burst of visitors for your website. But overall this is a good hosting. The support answer is about 1 hour.
2. GoDaddy.com

American hosting company. At first they started as a very cheap registrar and still they are the cheapest one. *.com domain costs $8.95/year (more years - cheaper). But now they offer hosting as well. First of all the advertising on their website is disgusting. I mean the amount of it. When you click on something be prepared that on the prime place you will see at first an advertising. When you order something prepare that on the steps from ordering to the final checkout you will get A LOT of advertsing. This sucks.
About hosting. Very HARD to find something you want. The usability of their website sucks completely. I wanted to find phpmyadmin sometime - I spent about 10 minutes for that!!! The speed of ftp is slow. The support speed of answer is rarely <5 hrs. When you get a burst of visitors for you website this hosting sucks. I had a digg and a stumbleupon first page feature and my website was down for the whole day and standed only for 6000-7000 visitors though it has to be about 20000-30000 for that day.
The good point of this hosting is that you get no spam! Absolutely. They use something good for guarding email and their own secure servers. That’s really good. Though, their servers sometime vanish (uptime is about 95%).
3. bluehost.com

The last one in my review. Though the first one I was hosting at. First of all they have only one plan and that’s very easy for people to choose and sign in. More choices to choose from = more time time to think and struggle. They have everything in this plan. A lot of Gb of traffic and bandwidth. A lot of free scripts and additions. Ftp is fast (now, but a year ago was slow). They are the biggest hosting company. Check out the blog of the CEO and you’ll see how many subscribers they get EVERY DAY! The support is good. Though I had a problem with them once (they deleted my account 7 days before the end of the paid time) but in 2-3 days they apologized and returned the account. I’m hosting there my project for russian artists: http://sketchers.ru and for about 3 years of hosting I didn’t have a big problem with them. They’re great! Really. Though again I don’t know what’s going to be when you have a burst of visitors.
The bad point of this hosting is that I have had A LOT of spam in my account. A lot = about 200-400 letters/day! And in the meantime they offered to buy antispam system for the account. Very funny.

The next step for me will be checking and testing these big hosters: MediaTemple.net and 1and1.com
